Our Rooms

Birth - 2 Years

We have a lovely, homely baby room for 0-2 year olds and we work closely with parent's to ensure we follow a child’s home routine wherever possible. We encourage natural curiosity and provide activities and toys that will provide stimulation and aid development. Messy play activities are offered both morning and afternoon promoting early mark making skills. The Early Years Foundation Stage 'revised' Framework focuses on three Prime areas of development (Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development). Practitioners work closely with parent's to provide activities for babies and toddlers to develop their skills in these areas.

2 - 5 Years - The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework is a holistic framework where children learn through 'PLAY'

Our larger room caters for 2-5 year olds and up to 8 year olds in the school holidays. We have a wide variety of resources and activities including a children’s library and outdoor play area and we have a balance of adult/child led activities designed to help children learn about themselves and the world around them. Qualified practitioners provide adult initiated activities in each of the seven areas of the 'EYFS 'revised' Framework', these are:

Prime Areas:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication and language
  • Physical development

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Practitioners support children in their learning and development, they interact when appropriate and challenge the children's critical thinking. Each child has a special book called a 'learning journey', this is a record of observations, assessments and photographs. We value your imput into the learning journey and will regularly ask for comments and information as we share your child's achievements.

We understand the importance of taking children on regular outings, and use our ‘Winther Turtle Bus’ which provides a safe method of transport for young children. Our proximity to Thornes Park means we regularly take groups of children along to learn about nature or just to simply run about and enjoy themselves!  More recently we have purchased a 'Walkodile' which allows six children to go on an outing by foot.

Pets at Home is another favourite with our children, we have regular visits to see the rabbits and guinea pigs. We have recently purchased two little houses for our 'minibeasts'.

The international supermarket gives the children an opportunity to buy snacks to sample back at the setting. Children learn about other cultures and the world around them.
